If you have heard football you definitely would have heard the name Lionel Messi, if you have heard of Messi you would have heard of FC Barcelona, and if you have heard of FC Barcelona, there is no way you haven’t heard about Camp Nou, el estadio del FC Barcelona, the home stadium of Barca (as FC Barcelona is popularly known). Camp Nou has become one of the most popular tourist locations in Spain. In fact, the Camp Nou Experience tour built around it is so popular that on an average more than 2 million tourists attend this tour annually.

Camp Nou, meaning new field, with a seating capacity of 99,354, is the largest stadium in Europe and the fourth largest football stadium in the world. Presenting below are some of the lesser known, but very interesting facts about Camp Nou.

  1. Ladislao Kubala — He was the main reason why Barca directors decided to build a new stadium. Barca signed him in June 1950, and soon his popularity among the fans grew by leaps and bounds. Camp de Les Corts, Barca’s stadium until that point, with a capacity of 48,000 was not able to accommodate enough fans. The club tried to extend Les Corts many times, but couldn’t push any further than 60,000 capacity. That was when they decided to come up with a new stadium, and that was the genesis of Camp…
